... not for everyone. HSB dentists choose their cases carefully to ensure patients have the highest success rates possible. If your situation would best be served with a different treatment option they will help explain this. Some situations are best served by a referral to an orthodontist who is a specialist trained to treat more complex situations (for example those patients that also require jaw surgery in conjunction with their braces).
The High Speed Braces technique involves a combination of skills combined to achieve a more attractive smile. It is not simply about doing braces faster, it involves advanced training in cosmetic dentistry and re constructive treatment planning along with the orthodontic treatment.
This ability to provide multiple levels of care may be an advantage for the patient when the situation involves both cosmetic and orthodontic needs. We call this multi-level skill "cross-training", and dentists who use this technique often use many different skills to give you the smile you deserve.
This is not to imply that our treatment results using HSB are superior to those of another practitioner using another technique. There are many alternatives available and differences of opinion about which are better in specific circumstances. This site should be helpful to patients to help them understand our biases and controversial treatment philosophy.

Surprising FACTS that even many dentists are unaware of...
- Damage to teeth is more likely with LONGER treatment times (what we taught in dental school on this subject has been proven to be WRONG).
- Root damage was once thought to be related to the amount of pressure used during orthodontics...wrong again! (According to the latest research there is no relationship between the amount of force used and root resorption, but there is a difference in the speed...knowing the correct answer to this will save a patient time).
- A recent article published in the Advanced Esthetics & Interdisciplinary Dentistry Journal and review of the literature by Dr. Vincent Kokich (Professor, Department of Orthodontics, Washington School of Dentistry, Seattle, Washington) summarized a number of facts that support the scientific principles of High Speed BracesTM. (This does not imply an endorsement, but it sure feels good to be supported by ideas from one of the TOP ORTHODONTISTS in the World).
- Many dental personnel think they know the answers to these simple questions but most are repeating MYTHS they learned in dental/assisting/hygiene school!
- Patients are more interested in rapid results than spending additional time in braces trying to get things "just right" (especially since there is no universal standard for orthodontic treatment even among orthodontists).

TIPS to remember before the day your braces are placed: To prepare for your new braces be sure you are up to date with your dental care. A recent check up and hygiene visit is essential. For 3-7 days prior to your "bracketing appointment" (when your High Speed BracesTM are put on), it also helps to swish a few times a day with hot salty water. If no allergies exist, you may also take two 200mg tablets of Ibuprofen/Motrin, three times a day beginning two days prior to your bracketing appointment and continuing for a couple days after. You may also be prescribed other medications to make your mouth dry for the visit.
